Description

Just a few minutes by car from the Wehlen district, just downstream of the Zeltinger Bridge, stands the "Kloster Machern", a former Cistercian nunnery. In the former hospital of the monastery are today historical toys, dolls and icons as well as special exhibitions, for example about the history of the monastery. In the approx. 600 sqm large museum a playful world awaits the visitor with the focus on the years 1860 to 1930. There are dolls, railways, cars, motorcycles with elaborate mechanics, buses and airplanes to admire. The brightly renovated rooms are accessible and furnished without steps. The museum in the Machern monastery is also a central point of contact for information about the monastery.

Permanent exhibition "Historical toys
In the Historical Toy and Doll Museum, visitors can discover an imaginative and playful world of dolls and toys, character dolls and individual dolls. Unique in its kind in Germany is "Mein Liebling", a valuable doll, produced in 1909 by Kämmer & Reinhardt. The popular tin toys can also be admired in the museum of the Machern Monastery. Let yourself be surprised by special exhibitions and seasonal leisure activities.

Permanent exhibition "Icons
The Icon Museum at Machern Monastery houses an important collection of over 200 historical icons and sacral objects. The icons come from orthodox churches in Russia, the Balkans, Greece and Ethiopia. They represent the extensive private collection of the merchant Edmund Pauken and his wife Gisela from Bad Breisig.

ESPECIALLY FOR "MONDAY-VISITORS":
On Mondays at 11:00 a.m. there will be a free briefing for interested guests on the history of the monastery in the chapel.
