Philipps-Eckstein wine estate is located at the “Graacher Schäferei”, high above the Moselle in Graach holiday village. From Graach, it is only 2 kilometers to Bernkastel-Kues. The family looks back on a history of winemaking that reaches well into the 17th century. The particular Philipps-Eckstein estate was founded in 1968, and has stayed in its present form since 1998. The winery owns 5 hectares of vineyards, which are located in Graach and Bernkastel. The sites are “Graacher Himmelreich”, “Graacher Domprobst” and “Bernkasteler Johannisbrünnchen”. Besides Riesling, the grape varieties of Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris are grown. The focus is clearly on Riesling. Soil and vine cultivation is done predominantly by hand. The estate - member of the “Bernkasteler Ring” - boasts numerous references and awards, including the 2007 golden “Bundesehrenpreis”, a highly regarded national prize. In 2007, the estate was also elected DLG winemaker of the year, another high national award. In 2008, it received the “Staatsehrenpreis”, the highest award for winemakers in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate. In 2014, Philipps-Eckstein estate delivered the winning wine of the Chamber of Agriculture (best “Auslese” in Rhineland-Palatinate).
