Not for the faint-hearted: near the wine villages Bremm and Ediger-Eller, the Calmont, with around 65% gradient, is without a doubt Europe’s steepest vineyard. If you want to climb via ferrata to the cross on the summit, you need a sure foot and good footwear… but you will also be rewarded with a breathtakingly beautiful panoramic view over several Moselle bights and the romantic ruins of the Stuben monastery deep down on the banks of the Moselle. The steep slope is a real sun-catcher: the wines that grow here reward the efforts of cultivation with particularly high quality.
